His father was a Physician. Henry W Taylor in 1870 was working on a farm at George & Betsey Whitman's. Elias Plimpton met him at the train station, according to the older citizens in Litchfield in 1992, they also remembered, he worked for the Sanborn Book Co, a school supplies company. A few people still living in 1992, said he was a very highly respected man in the town. He had beauitful or handsome snow white wavey hair. And not all, but a few, would say after cross questioned, "Oh yes, I had forgot, he did have a negro ancestry, as his mother had been a slave." This man was not remember became he was the first black man in town. He was remembered because of his serves and his children's serves to the town. He served on the local school board nearly 60 years, and was for a term Superintendent of the school committee, taught town schools 136 terms. During Litchfield Maine' 100th anniversary he served as the Secretary of the committee. He also served on both the trustee and executive boards of Litchfield Academy. HE was a member of the Congregational Church and OES and was a past master 1915-1916 and Chaplain 1917-1918 of the Morning Star lodge of F & AM. He settled in Litchfield at age 14 years which was near the end of the Civil War. Mr Thompson lived at Boston, where he had a prosperous milk route, but moved a year later to Bowdoin ME with his bride where he lived for 19 years where he farmed. In 1874 he moved to Webster and later to Greene and by 1895 to Brunswick ME and worked a good size farm on Pleasant Street. When Isaac Thompson was an infant he was terribly burned his hand all but two of his fingers. The fingers were drawn up from the effects of the burns that they were useless. He later lost the two fingers by having them caught in a machine. In spite of the disability he was able to write by his natural ability to over come obstacles. He was a strong temperance man, using no tobacco and drinking nothing stronger than water and milk. He said in 1904, that in his youth he experienced some of the follies of his life and saw the error of his ways and after 1868, was temperate in every way. He was first a Baptist later identified with the Advent Christians.
